Band of the Royal Regiment of NZ Artillery: Lest We Forget |

Originally issued in 1997 and now available once again, this recording includes a selection of tunes made popular during the war years (1939 – 1945) and is dedicated to the memory of those who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom today. It honours the great debt that we owe to the ANZACS.
The items that have been chosen reflect the different songs that were sung and that were popular at the time. The recording also features music performed at ceremonial and at military occasions. The Band of the Royal Regiment of New Zealand Artillery, affectionately known as the ‘Arty Band’ was established in 1864 and has the distinction of being the oldest band in New Zealand with unbroken service.
The front cover picture is taken from a collection of photographs that were taken during the anniversary on August 13th of the burial of several Allied airmen: two New Zealanders, two Australians and four Britons; airmen who were shot down over France on returning from a bombing raid over Italy. They were buried in the French village of La Bussiere-sur-Ouche, which is situated in the heart of Burgandy. The graves are to this day tended by the local villagers. They are to be seen, year round, with fresh flowers on them.
"Lest we forget... We shall remember them, for they have given up their lives that we may be free."
