Out of print secondhand item in excellent condition Herbs came together 30 years ago this year, in a time of societal upheaval, Maori awakening and land rights struggles, a global shift in indigenous consciousness, and all against the background of NZ Prime Minister Muldoon’s vice-like hold on power and later a Springbok rugby tour which divided the nation. In recent years contemporary groups like Fat Freddys Drop, Katchafire and House of Shem (led by former Herbs member Carl Perkins) have cited Herbs as inspirational pioneers. For this 30th anniversary compilation, 16 classic Herbs originals have been compiled by founder member Dilworth Karaka, and also included is a new version of Sensitive To A Smile by Hollie Smith. “Herbs were the voice of many New Zealander’s during so many political movements, but still maintained a message of peace and love that unified people. They are incredible musicians that created timeless pieces that are still the sound of every NZ summer.
