Prince Tui Teka: The Entertainer |
Tui Teka was from Ruatahuna in the Ureweras, and had a musical childhood. His mother played mouth organ and clarinet and his father was a saxophonist with a bush band.
After learning guitar and saxophone at woolshed dances with teenage bands, Teka moved to Sydney and began a six-year stand with the Maori Volcanics showband on the Japan and Pacific circuit. The 'Prince' title was adopted when Teka joined the Maori Troubadours.
This album features over twenty tunes of standards and originals. The Prince is ably backed by members of The Quincy Conserve (tracks 12-21), Rockinghorse (Tracks 1-11) and with backing vocals from The Yandall Sisters. This cd was originally released in 1998,and there are no recording date details given, but both Quincy Conserve and Rockinghorse had disbanded by the late 1970s so it is safe to assume the recordings were made in the 1970s.
