Jacqui's deep, silky tones are well known to most New Zealanders. While her voice became familiar in households across the country through her work on the award winning BASF ‘Dear John’ advert (which went on to win world acclaim and is in the Advertising Hall Of Fame), she is a session vocalist and successful recording artist in her own right. 1985s’ The Masquerade Is Over was a special treat for jazz fans. It brimmed with beautiful songs sung by someone with passion and distinctive deep tones. Jacqui brought a unique approach to the music instead of just cloning familiar overseas jazz artists and a part of that uniqueness was that she didn’t sound like your typical jazz-trained singer. Not surprisingly she won the Jazz Album of the Year in 1985 with The Masquerade Is Over (the first time a female had won the award). The album won acclaim and was highly rated by music writers and reviewers across the country. Jacqui’s follow up Kindred was released in 1991 and soon after Jacqui retired from the music business to pursue other interests. It’s been a big gap in the kiwi music archives that her album has never been re-issued on CD and so not discovered by many kiwi jazz fans. The re-issued The Masquerade Is Over is remastered and features the previously unreleased track Body And Soul. The album features some of New Zealand's best known jazz musicians; Mike Walker, Andy Brown, Frank Gibson Jnr. Brian Smith and Martin Winch.
