Singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Lisa Crawley is a unique talent in New Zealand. She has travelled the world with her music and played in every manner of environment, from dodgy pub gigs to the VIP Lounge at the Ritz in London, to 5-star hotels in Japan, to just about every available space back at home.
Until 2008, 22 year-old Lisa was living in London, playing her own songs and also as part of Rodney Fisher's (Goodshirt) live band - playing keys, guitar and even banjo. Upon her return, she quickly reestablished herself as a known presence in the Auckland music scene. Now, having already self-released one EP of original material (Shoot the Night), Lisa releases her second EP (Hello, Goodbye, and Everything Inbetween). The latter was recorded with her versatile live band "The Conversations" - featuring members of The Hot Grits, The Shades and The Mint Chicks - to name but a few and also features the production talents of a Ben King (Goldenhorse).
Most often seen at the piano, Lisa is just as au fait with the guitar, melodica, clarinet, glockenspiel, omnichord, and yes - the recorder! With a sound that can't be pinned to one genre, Lisa cites her musical inspirations as including Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Bic Runga, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, and much more. With a live show that incorporates elements of jazz, country, pop, indie and a charmingly dry wit, Lisa Crawley is a lover of life and music who defies definition.
“The recent winner of the Pacific Songwriting competition, Lisa Crawley's whimsical folk pop is winning fans the world over. Auckland-based Crawley has the enviable ability to brighten anyone's day.”
