A wide range of Maori music that has featured throughout the 20th century.This compilation looks back on nearly forty years of recordings featuring the music of the Maori people of
New Zealand.
The performers are:
Aotearoa International Tour Company -selected performers from many areas who periodically tour the world promoting New Zealand.
Hato Paora College -A boarding school for boys which is situated at Fielding in the central North Island. They have a tradition of outstanding Kapa Haka and Choral performance. The entire College directed by Morvin Simon perform the items featured in this programme.
Honey Rika has for many years featured first in cultural performance and more recently as a successful soloist.
Maisey Rika -Daughter of Honey and former pupil of St Joseph's Maori Girls' College where she was a featured soloist during her time there as a student. She has the distinction of having recorded three successful albums before she was 16.
Willie Matthews Quartet -A former student of Hato Paora College ,Willie enjoyed a successful singing career before establishing his quartet which also includes three college teachers in Morvin & Kura Simon with Wiremu Reedy
Morvin Simon -Choral Director of Hato Paora College, Kaiwhaiki Cultural Group, Te Matapihi and many others, features on this album as a vocalist.
Ngati Rangiwewehi -from Rotorua and directed by Atareta and Trevor Horowaewae Maxwell. The group are past National and Polynesian Champions.
Rotorua International Maori Entertainers -Directed by Maureen and John Waaka this long established group of performers are to be seen daily in their Rotorua performances. They have also toured successfully overseas.
St Joseph's Maori Girls' College -Tutored by their principal Georgina Kingi (who is herself a former student and choir member) the choir enjoys a worldwide reputation.
