1814: An 8-piece reggae band out of the hills surrounding the Whangaroa Harbour & nearby town of Kerikeri, Northland. 1814’s debut album Jah Rydem captures the band’s reggae sound which is laced with upbeat, funky, R&B & roots, with plenty of energetic, skanking grooves loaded with wicked sax & sweet, soulful vocals. 1814’s live show is electric! They’ve honed their chops playing regularly at various gigs & festivals & with some of NZ’s finest roots bands: Katchafire, House Of Shem, 3 Houses Down, Cornerstone Roots, Unity Pacific, Ardijah, Whirimako Black, Che Fu, Moana & The Tribe & many, many more. The name is taken from the year the Gospel arrived at Oihi, in the Bay of Islands – an inspiration for 1814, who deliver a message of peace, love & unity to all people.
