A defining moment in John’s musical journey happened when he was fired from his job at the Kawerau timber mill. He then traded in his black timber workers singlet for the latest Mod gear and headed on his musical journey that took him briefly to the bright lights of Auckland and then the brighter lights of Melbourne where he sang in a duo with Eddie Low as The New Zealand Beatles. In mid 1967, John was discovered by Cliff Richard’s manager, Peter Gormley singing in a small club in Sydney which overnight moved John’s career from first to fourth gear as London and the world beckoned.
Over the years there have been several John Rowles collections available - none of which have done justice to New Zealand’s greatest male vocalist.
Universal Music scoured the vaults in London and Los Angeles for John’s original master tapes, most of which have never been used...until NOW!
If I Only Had Time - The Anthology features a 54 track double CD and comes with a lavish 20 page booklet which tells John’s musical story in depth starting as the lead guitarist in The Kawerau Shadows in the early sixties.
