With a knack for off-kilter pop and a decent hint of chaos, the Bird Nest Roys had a brief but brilliant lifespan with a handful of releases during the mid-1980s on Flying Nun Records.
Born in the hills west of Auckland in the 1980s, the Bird Nest Roys spent a long time evolving into an intelligent life-form before being discovered by the public at large in 1985. A big band by NZ standards - with six members - their infectious brand of 60’s style pop came complete with multiple vocal harmonies and quite literally layered guitars (with up to four in unison), with members of the band later going on to play with likes of the 3Ds,Snapper and The Tufnels.
Now, for the first time (2013), the band’s full discography has been packaged up for your listening convenience. Me Want Me Get Me Need Me Have Me Love includes the Bird Nest Roys’ 1987 self-titled LP, the ‘Whack It All Down’ 12” EP plus bonus 7” B-Side and live recording.
