Taumaranui born soprano Rhonda was born with a gift. Daughter to All Black Ron Bryers, Rhonda’s appreciation for music started at a young age. In 1972 she was the first recipient of the Marie D'Albini Scholarship at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Auckland. She went on to study Opera under Dame Sister Mary Leo where she had notable success, but it wasn’t until 1981, on the Royal Variety Performance, that John Rowles introduced her as the “Voice of New Zealand” - a moniker that would stick with her throughout her career. She would go on to claim the coveted “NZ Entertainer of the Year Award” in 1984 following in the footsteps of Sir Howard Morrison, Billy T James & Prince Tui Teka, before moving to Australia where she was nominated 5 times for “Australian Female Entertainer of the Year”
