Born William Taitoko in 1948, Billy was originally a group entertainer and had his first real break in show business when he was invited to join the internationally acclaimed Maori Volcanics. Once he made up his mind to go it alone, he was an immediate success as a solo entertainer. As well as a comedian he was also a singer. He starred in his own TV show and was named Entertainer of the Year in 1981 and Entertainer of the Decade in 1985. Someone once said about Billy that “he taught us to laugh at ourselves”. This disc is a collection of his finest songs, and includes the much requested When A Child Is Born.
