Whirimako's resume is impressive: her independently released debut album 'Hinepukohurangi: Shrouded In The Mist', won 'Best Maori Language Album' at the 2001 NZ Music Awards and is approaching Gold sales status in NZ. Her 2nd album 'Hohou te Tongo: Cultivate Peace', was once again recorded and released independently by Whirimako and is also nearing Gold sales. Whirimako's 3rd album 'Tangihaku' was nominated for both a TUI Music Award and an APRA Silver Scroll Award. Whirimako has also appeared on numerous international compilations including the '1 Giant Leap' CD.Kura Huna consists of a much-cherished collection of very old waiata and chant originating from the Mataatua region (the landfall place of one of the very first waka to arrive in NZ). To bring these songs to a contemporary audience, Whirimako has collaborated closely with Russel Walder.Russel Waider is a talented musician, oboe player and composer whose past career includes albums recorded with Windham Hill and Narada Records in the US and whose live career has included many years performing internationally with the "An Evening With Windham Hill' artist showcase tours.
