The current Pluto line-up came together in March 2001, several months prior to the release of red light syndrome. Pluto maintained their reputation as an energetic and gloriously unpredictable live band by touring throughout the country over the following year. In addition, the band also saw red light syndrome released in Australia via indie label Karmic Hit. In March 2004, Pluto were amongst an elite cartel of New Zealand bands invited to play the legendary South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. And while overseas, the band took the opportunity to play showcase gigs in Los Angeles and London before returning  home to work on their sophomore album.
