The album Lament for the Numb was finally released in 1993, some five years since Dave's previous album, Loyal. Dobbyn had travelled to Los Angeles in 1992 to record the album with Mitchell Froom - the production wizard who had success with hits from Crowded House, Los Lobos, and Suzanne Vega - and Bruce and Pete Thomas of Elvis Costello's Attractions, one of the world's most respected rhythm sections.
